On the Feast Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe

The Virgin of Guadalupe, painted by me.

The Virgin of Guadalupe, painted by me.

Hail Maria, full of Grace
Blessed art thou among all women.
The Lord is with thee,
and you with me.

Holy Mother,
the Feminine Divine,
hallowed be thy name.

Our Lady of the Cactus Flower,
winter roses adorn thy crown.
Opening your robe with amorous arms
the stars fall as flittering, sparkling, snow.

As the Earth is,
so are you – a virgin creatrix,
from mud and blood and water,
breathing life into the stagnant & hardened.

Our Lady of the Americas,
aloe and marigolds,
sugar skulls and cinnamon,
most holy perfume.

Hold us now in your embrace,
the beating of your heart telling a rhythm of love divine,
of hope eternal,
the weaving together of claw and fleece.

Hail Maria,
for bringing grace into the world,
most blessed is your name.
